Bernard Picart Drawings of Religious Ceremonies ca 1770

Copper plate etchings of drawings by Picart published by Viero in Venice ca. 1800. Engravings by either Viero or Baratti. The images are simply incredible. Both for the quality of the engraving and for the fantastic nature of the subject material. It is obvious that Picart had never seen any of the ceremonies he was depicting, but rather relied on the testimony of travelers or probably simple rumor.
